Plan your first drive
Tell Windshield Weather where you are going and when you leave. It divides the route into sections and forecasts each one for the moment you reach it.

Before you start
You need to be signed in; Sign in shows each way. Location is optional. Without it, 01 STARTING FROM is a search field and everything else works the same.
Open the plan form
Open Explore
The first tab. The plan form, “Where are you driving?”, sits in a sheet over the map; drag it up if it is small.
Or start from Drives
Tap + beside the Drives title to open Plan a drive.
Open Explore
The plan form is in the panel beside the map. Press 1 to get there from anywhere.
Or start from Drives
Click + beside the Drives title.
Open Drives
Tap + Plan a drive. A drive planned here is saved straight away.
Or plan from Explore
The form, “Where are you headed?”, opens in a sheet over the map. Planning saves the drive before loading its forecast.
Open the planner
Go to windshieldweather.com/app and sign in. The form, “Where to, and when?”, is in the card on the left; on a phone it fills the screen.
Or start from Drives
Choose PLAN A DRIVE in the DRIVES tab.
Fill in the three steps
The form asks three things, numbered the same way on every device. The picture follows the device you chose above.
Where you are starting
01 STARTING FROM — search for a town, a city or an address, or use your location.
Where you are going
02 GOING TO — search for where you are headed. The line under each result names its region, which is how you tell two places with the same name apart.
When you leave
03 LEAVING — take one of the quick choices, or pick a day and a time up to seven days ahead. Choose when you leave has the choices on each device.
- 01 STARTING FROM: your location, or a place you search for
- 02 GOING TO: where you are headed
- 03 LEAVING: a quick choice, or a day and a time
- Show the weather plans the drive
Show the weather
Tap Show the weather. The app works out the road ahead — it takes a few seconds — and opens the drive: numbered sections from the start to your arrival, each with the time you reach it, its conditions and its rating.
When a lot of people are planning at the same moment, the forecast waits its turn, and the app says so: “Lots of drivers are planning right now, so your forecast is waiting its turn. It can take a minute or two.” Leave the drive open; it fills in when the forecast arrives.
- The strip: every section, coloured by its rating
- Local or elapsed time
- A section: when you reach it, and its rating
- When it was updated, and Refresh
Where it goes next
The drive is saved with your account, so it is on every device where you sign in, and it keeps its forecast up to date while you have it open.
- iPhone, iPad and Mac save every drive you plan, from either tab.
- Android saves every drive when planning starts, from Explore or Drives, even if its forecast fails. There is no separate Save step.
- The web saves each drive you plan.
