Never colour alone
Every rating is a colour, a shape and a word together — an outlined circle for CALM, a filled disc for MILD, a triangle for CAUTION, a diamond for HAZARD and an octagon for EXTREME. Colour alone fails about one man in twelve, and everyone in direct sunlight. The colours are also checked against the common kinds of colour blindness, so neighbouring ratings stay distinct.
Text size
- iPhone, iPad and Mac follow your text size setting from the smallest up to the largest standard size, XXX Large. The larger accessibility sizes are shown at XXX Large.
- Android follows your font size, and layouts rearrange at large sizes rather than cutting text off.
- The website follows your browser’s zoom.
Screen readers
VoiceOver and TalkBack read each section as one sentence — its number, rating, arrival time, place, condition and temperature — and the strip at the top of the timeline announces each section. Decorative icons are hidden from screen readers.
Motion
With Reduce Motion on, iPhone, iPad and Mac swap animated transitions for simple fades, and the map moves without flying. On Android, with animations turned off, the radar shows its latest picture instead of the loop.
Keyboard
On a Mac, or an iPad with a keyboard: 1 Explore, 2 Drives, 3 Settings, and Esc closes a sheet. In these docs, / or K opens search.
Light and dark
The apps follow your system’s light or dark appearance.
Listen instead of reading
The briefing reads the whole drive aloud, with the text on screen beside it, stretch by stretch. The briefing shows how to play it.
