Where drives are kept

A drive you plan is saved on the device you planned it on — the phone, the tablet, the Mac or the browser — and with your account, so it is on every device where you sign in. Each change is saved on the device first and sent when it is online; until then, the drive’s row reads Saved on this device. Android Auto reads the drives on the phone it is connected to. Use more than one device explains syncing.

What is saved is the plan — the places, the departure and any stops — not a copy of the forecast. Opening a drive asks for the forecast as it stands now.

When a drive is saved

  • iPhone, iPad and Mac: every drive you plan, from Explore or from Drives.
  • Android: every drive you plan, from Explore or Drives, is saved as planning starts, before the forecast loads. A failed forecast does not discard the drive; choose Try again to reload it. There is no separate Save step.
  • Web: each drive you plan.

On every device, planning the same places and departure again opens the drive you already have.

The list

The DRIVES tab lists your drives as a table: number, route, when it leaves, and its worst rating. Ended drives fold under SHOW PREVIOUS DRIVES.

A drive is upcoming until you leave, in progress until its arrival time passes, and then previous.

Open, copy or delete a drive

Open a drive by tapping it. It opens on its map or timeline and fetches its forecast.

Copy a drive to plan it again with a different time: open it, then its menu (•••), and choose Copy into a new plan — on iPhone, iPad, Mac and the web, and on Android in the drive’s actions. The plan form fills in with the same places. A saved drive itself never changes: a different time makes a new drive.

Delete a drive:

Choose EDIT, the minus on the row, then DELETE, or open the drive’s menu (•••) › Delete drive. A message offers UNDO for a few seconds; × closes it and keeps the deletion.

Deleting a drive removes it from every device.

Signing out and your drives

Signing out removes your drives from the device; they stay with your account and come back when you sign in again. If some changes have not synced yet, the app tries to send them first, and warns you if it cannot. Deleting your account erases them everywhere. Delete your account has the rest.

Saved drives with stops on Android

An Android drive’s title names its intermediate destinations in order. Its summary counts nights and other stops, and its arrival and in-progress state use elapsed time including stops. A drive saved without stops runs nonstop. Open a saved drive to edit its stops; the change saves it as a new drive in its place, on every device.

Drive alerts

Open a saved drive’s context menu and choose Drive alerts. Turn on Notify me about this drive, then allow notifications on this device. You can choose a day-before and one-hour outlook, meaningful forecast changes (including improvements), weather ahead, and official warnings issued, updated or ended. Alerts are reaching accounts gradually.

After reviewing a newly planned drive’s forecast, returning to Drives may offer this once. Choosing Not now leaves alerts off; you can enable them in the drive menu later. Copied drives start with alerts off. Each device needs its own notification permission. If permission is blocked, your choices stay saved and the sheet explains how to allow notifications.

Updates use your planned departure and stops, rather than live location. A weather-ahead message estimates when your plan reaches the affected section; it does not observe rain starting in ten minutes.

Settings → Notifications contains Quiet hours, on by default. It pauses routine drive alerts from 22:00 to 07:00 in the time zone saved when you enable each drive’s alerts. Turn it off to receive routine updates overnight. This setting applies to every drive and device on your account; changing it does not enable alerts or request push permission. Imminent travel updates and urgent warnings may still arrive during quiet hours. Device Focus and Do Not Disturb always apply.

A forecast improving or a warning ending does not mean the road is safe. Open the drive for the latest forecast and issuer instructions. Missing data may delay alerts. Turning alerts off or deleting the drive stops future messages; an already-delivered lock-screen notification may remain.
