Use more than one device

One account works on every device, and your saved drives and display settings follow it. Here is how syncing works, and what stays on each device.

Sign in on each device

Use the same sign-in method on each device — the same Apple Account, Google account or email. Signing in on a second device is often a single tap, because the sign-in window remembers you. Sign in shows each way.

What follows your account

FOLLOWS YOUR ACCOUNT
Your saved drives; your display settings — units, clock, map style, layers and how the route is drawn; your sign-in methods, your privacy choices — Analytics and Marketing — and your membership.
STAYS ON THE DEVICE
The app’s language, location permission, recent places, and the forecasts kept for use without a connection.

Sign in on a new phone and your drives are there once it has synced. Android Auto shows the drives on the phone it is connected to; a car with Google built in signs in to your account and syncs on its own.

How syncing works

Each change is saved on the device first, so the app keeps working without a connection, and is then sent to your account. Your other devices pick it up while they are open and online. Until a drive has reached your account, its row reads Saved on this device.

A saved drive is never changed, only copied into a new plan or deleted, and deleting it removes it from every device. If a setting is changed on two devices, the change that reaches your account last is the one they all use.

In the web app, open SETTINGS › Account › Device sync. The row shows the sync status; open it for details and Sync now.

Without a connection

You can open and delete drives without a connection; the changes go when you are back online. The apps also keep each drive’s last forecast for up to a day — How the forecast stays current has the detail.

Signing out

Signing out on one device signs out that device only; your other devices stay signed in. The app asks you to confirm, because getting back in means signing in again through your browser: signing out of the app also signs that phone’s browser out of windshieldweather.com, so the next Sign in asks who you are. Signing out of the website ends that browser’s session and leaves your apps signed in.

Signing out removes your drives and settings from that device; they stay with your account and come back when you sign in again. If some changes have not synced yet, the app tries to send them first, and warns you if it cannot.

There is no single “sign out everywhere” button. Deleting your account signs out every device at once; Delete your account explains what else it does.

On Android, if the account summary fails to load, choose Try again. Sign out remains available while it loads or fails; any warning about unsynced changes still applies.
