Every beta build so far is version 1.0, so changes are listed by week. They reach testers through TestFlight and Google Play as new builds.
5–11 October 2026
- Live exploration on Android. Explore live, on a drive’s card or in its menu, travels the drive in 3D before you leave, as on iPhone, iPad and Mac: rain and snow, fog, the sun and moon lighting the scene, and the wind, where you will be at each moment. With Android Auto showing your phone on the car’s screen it pauses. See Live exploration.
- A new map on Android. The buttons on the map are now the two groups iPhone, iPad and Mac have: Map and Weather, then your location and Show the whole drive; Layers is gone. Map sets the map’s colour — Readout, the app’s own style, or Mapbox’s Standard, Faded, Mono, Warm and Cool — and its lighting, with satellite, 3D buildings, terrain and labels, and your choice now follows your account. Weather holds radar, with its credits under its key, and wind. A key on the map says what the route’s colours mean, and which radar picture and wind hour are showing. See The map.
28 September – 4 October 2026
- The map, after the first week. On iPhone, iPad and Mac the location button now follows you — north up, then turned with the way you face, then north up again. On iPhone only the map card moves in its bottom dock; drive navigation and tabs stay in place, and the route moves into the space when you lower the card. Map asks for the colour before the lighting; any lighting can be chosen after Sun; and the route, radar and wind keep their colours at night. The radar key matches the design, with a colour bar for each kind of precipitation. In live exploration the road’s height now reads, switching between Driver and Follow always shows, and touching the panel no longer turns the view. See The map.
- Live exploration on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Explore live, on a drive’s card or in its menu, travels the drive in 3D before you leave, with the forecast drawn where you will be at each moment: rain and snow, fog, the sun and moon lighting the scene, and the wind. It finds the moments worth seeing — weather starting, the highest point, a low sun ahead — and slows down for them. See Live exploration.
- A new map on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The buttons on the map are now two groups: Map and Weather, then your location and Show the whole drive. Map sets the map’s lighting and colour — the app’s own style, or Mapbox’s Standard, Faded, Mono, Warm and Cool — with satellite, 3D buildings, terrain and labels. Weather holds radar and wind. A key on the map says what the route’s colours mean. See The map.
- A new briefing. Two hosts, Alex and Sam, now talk your drive through: the towns on the way, sunrise and sunset, how to get ready, and every stretch worth slowing for. Short drives get short briefings; long ones get an overview of the day. The text says who is speaking and follows the voice as it plays. See The briefing.
- Session replays, masked. While Analytics is on, the iPhone, iPad and Android apps and the web planner record how you move through the screens, with text hidden except weather readouts. The map shows in the phone and tablet apps. Turning Analytics off now stops everything sent to our analytics service about your account. See Location and privacy.
- Account settings on your account page. Settings › Account is now a short screen: who is signed in, then Update account settings, Sign out and Delete account. Update account settings opens your account page on windshieldweather.com inside the app, already signed in, to change your email, password, privacy choices and sign-in methods; the app picks up the changes when you come back. Delete account opens the deletion page the same way. Units, clock, language and location stay in the app’s Settings. See Change your email.
- Your drives follow your account. Saved drives and display settings — units, clock, map style, layers and how the route is drawn — sync between iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, cars with Google built in and the web. Each change is saved on the device first and sent when you are online; until then a drive reads Saved on this device, and Sync now sends it at once. See Use more than one device.
- Deleting a drive removes it from every device. A saved drive is never changed in place; Copy into a new plan starts another from the same places. See Your drives.
- Units and the clock follow your account, and on Android and the web can match the device. See Units, clock and language.
- Without a connection, the apps keep a saved drive’s last forecast for up to a day. See How the forecast stays current.
- Signing out removes your drives and settings from that device; they come back when you sign in again. Deleting your account erases them everywhere, each device as it next connects. See Delete your account.
21–27 September 2026
- Forecasts wait their turn. When a lot of people plan at once, a drive’s forecast now waits in line for a minute or two instead of failing, and the app says so.
- Update prompts. The app now tells you when an update is suggested or required. On Android, a suggested update downloads in the background and then offers a restart; on iPhone, iPad and Mac, the App Store page opens inside the app. See App updates.
- New radar. Radar now comes from Windshield Weather’s own radar service: NOAA radar for the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Guam; EUMETNET OPERA radar for Europe; and a satellite estimate and forecast model elsewhere. Rain and snow are drawn apart.
- Radar says when it is unavailable, instead of quietly showing something else. Builds from 26 September and earlier show radar as unavailable until updated.
- The whole route’s forecast on the map, grouped by zoom, with markers for sections, stretches, sunrise and sunset and clock changes. Markers now hold their place while you move the map.
- Simpler map buttons: Layers, your location, and Show the whole drive.
- Mac fixes: map controls respond in wide windows, clicking the route selects the section under it, and sheets size and close properly.
- Share a Story: make an image of a drive for Instagram Stories or any app — city names only, never an exact address or your live position.
- Tidier place names on Android, including on the car screen.
- An Analytics switch in Settings › Account › Privacy, which applies across your devices. See Location and privacy.
- Français. The apps, the car screens, the website, its emails and the store listings are now in French, for France and for Canada.
- Sign-in methods. Settings › Account shows which methods are connected, and the website can connect or remove Apple and Google, with safeguards. See Sign-in methods.
- Links open the app. Windshield Weather links open the right screen in the app when it is installed, or carry on in the browser.
- Planning and timelines, aligned across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android.
14–20 September 2026
- Plan drives in your browser at windshieldweather.com/app, with the forecast along the route, saved drives and the spoken briefing.
- The beta page at windshieldweather.com/beta, with TestFlight and Google Play testing links.
- Smoother radar at higher zoom, and see-through weather layers.
- Native look and feel: system sheets and controls around the weather readouts, and a rail and reading panel on wide screens.
7–13 September 2026
- The native apps: a new app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and one for Android phones, Android Auto and cars with Google built in. The first builds went to testing on 12 September.
