CarPlay is not included in Windshield Weather’s App Store release. Some TestFlight builds include CarPlay for testing, but it is not ready for general release. There is no release date yet.

What is being tested

In test builds, CarPlay shows the drives kept with your account, as your iPhone has them, and can start a simple one of its own:

  • Drives — your upcoming drives, each with when it leaves and its worst rating. Tap one to put it on the map.
  • New drive — at the top of Drives: a drive from where you are, leaving now. Pick one of your Recent places, or Search when the car allows typing.
  • Sections — the drive’s numbered sections, each with its arrival time, condition and rating. Tap one for its details, then Show on map.
  • Briefing — the drive’s facts and a Play button. The text is not shown in the car. Loading audio means playback is starting; Pause cancels it. If audio is unavailable, try Refresh. Disconnecting CarPlay pauses the briefing. On your iPhone, tap Play to continue from the same position.
  • Map options — saved on this iPhone for CarPlay, separately from the phone’s map choices. Map includes colour, light, satellite, 3D buildings, terrain, place labels and points of interest. Standard-only choices are disabled when the current style does not support them. Route includes route colour, weather marker style, clock changes, sunrise and sunset, and offscreen pointers. Weather includes radar, radar play/pause, wind and traffic; weather alerts appear when enabled for your account. The radar timeline and wind model hour share a small card over the map. Weather rows credit their sources, and Map data credits the map. Radar options also offers Complete loop, Past & now, Forecast, 1/6/12h history and 3/12/24h forecasts, previous/next frame and Go live. The card over the map is display-only.
  • The map — opens where you are when location is allowed for planning; drag it to look around, and zoom with its buttons. Framing the whole drive leaves room for the weather card, route labels and map attribution.

Signing in happens on the iPhone. Until you do, the car shows only Sign in on your iPhone, and no map or weather.

What you can do today

  • Play the briefing before you set off. Open the drive on your iPhone, choose Briefing and play it while you are still parked. It keeps playing in the background, through whatever your iPhone is playing sound to.
  • Check the drive before you leave. Opening it refreshes the forecast. How the forecast stays current explains when.
