What it measures

The share of the sky over this section covered by cloud, from 0%, clear, to 100%, overcast. When the forecast gives no figure, the cell shows a dash, or is left out on Android.

Why it matters on the road

An overcast sky makes a darker road and often a colder one, and it can make twilight feel like night and change where the glare falls. When nothing is falling, the amount of cloud is how the condition itself is described — clear, partly cloudy, overcast.

As a number on its own it changes nothing about the drive, so the app never rates it.

Never rated

Cloud cover never carries a mark, and it never changes a section’s rating. An overcast sky can still make a section MILD, but through the condition, not through this reading; see Severity.
